The Art of Tying a Bow Tie

Half windsor

A Half Windsor is an elegant and versatile tie knot worn casually and formally. The Half Windsor is medium-sized, nearly symmetrical, and creates a distinct dimple when tied correctly.

It is an excellent choice for ties made of lighter to medium-weight fabrics and works particularly well with shirts with a classic or slightly spread collar. The Half Windsor is a stylish compromise between the smaller Four-in-Hand and the more substantial Full Windsor knot.

How to: tie
STEP 1: Place the tie around your neck with the wide end on the left and the narrow end on the right. The narrow end should finish just above the navel.

STEP 2: Cross the wide end over the narrow end to the right.

STEP 3: Bring it back under the narrow end and up to the left

STEP 4: Cross it over again to the right, resting the wide end over your left shoulder.

STEP 5: Place a finger under the loop around your neck and grip the middle of the wide end

STEP 6: Pull the wide end downward toward your chest, so the back side of the tie now faces forward.
