Knitted Knowledge

At Oscar Jacobson, we approach knitted garments with the same dedication as we do when crafting a suit. Since 1903, our heritage of tailoring has been built on careful design, craftsmanship, and attention to detail, using only the finest raw materials from around the world.

All of our knitted garments are made in Italy, in collaboration with forward-thinking yarn manufacturers Millefili and Filpucci, who provide yarns of the highest quality. Our exceptional merino wool comes from Tollegno 1900. We design our products to last for generations, striving for perfection in every aspect.

Wool care

Our Italian suppliers use knitting machines based on the Swedish inventor Per Persson's patent, showcased at the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893. Like Oscar Jacobson himself, Persson was an innovator who revolutionised and streamlined the production process.

Together with our partners, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and only work with those who share our values. We use closed systems for dyeing and have developed our own high-quality blend of wool, viscose, nylon, and cashmere. Both the wool and cashmere are recycled from production, and every step of our process is fully traceable, from raw material to the finished product.

Usage

Wool isn’t usually worn close to the skin, so it doesn’t need frequent washing. Wash your knitted garments as little as possible; instead, hang them outside to air for a few hours.

If you get a stain, avoid washing the entire garment. Treat the stain as soon as possible before it sets into the yarn. Be gentle—don’t scrub excessively. Mix lukewarm water with a few drops of dish soap and gently rub the stain with a cloth or sponge.

If you need to wash the garment, hand wash it in water, no warmer than 30°C. If using a washing machine, place the garment in a laundry bag. Use Oscar Jacobson’s detergent, specifically designed for wool, and select the wool or hand wash setting. Ensure the water temperature stays below 30°C, and use as few spins per minute as possible.

Always dry the garment flat, preferably on a towel. Never hang a wet garment on a hanger, as it will lose its shape.

Knitted garments do develop pilling over time. This doesn’t reflect poor quality—wool is a natural, living material, and this is part of its behaviour. When the surface becomes rough and the fibres form small clumps, you can easily remove them. We offer combs and fabric shavers in our stores and on our website.

To help preserve your knitted garments, consider placing a few pieces of cedar wood in your wardrobe. Cedar has many benefits—it absorbs moisture, emits a pleasant scent, and keeps pests away. Wrap the cedar in paper to protect your garments from the wood’s natural oils.
