DRAGO

The family-owned prodigy
In an industry dominated by seasoned veterans with centuries of experience, the polished fabric producer Drago, at just 51 years old, remains a vibrant upstart to many.

Founded in 1973 by the married duo Umberto and Laura Drago, the company has burgeoned over half a century into one of Italy's foremost players in crafting fabrics tailored for suits and jackets for prestigious occasions worldwide, demanding nothing but the finest quality.

At Drago's two production facilities in the textile district of Biella, 152 employees work diligently. In Lessona, one of these facilities, the initial manufacturing steps unfold. Here, the carefully chosen wool from Australia and South America is spun into yarns. This site also houses the comprehensive laboratory of the entirely family-owned textile producer, where wool and yarns undergo meticulous checks against various parameters, ensuring the final material meets top-notch standards for customer satisfaction.
The second phase of production takes place 20 kilometers southwest, in the quaint village of Verrone. Here, you'll find the weaving mill, design department, and warehouse, where the crucial finishing touches are applied to the fabrics. This finishing step, involving techniques like fire and water, gives the fabrics their unique surface qualities, which you, as a customer, can feel and experience. Skilled workers meticulously inspect and refine the fabrics, millimeter by millimeter, before they're deemed ready to leave the facility. Magnifying glasses, tweezers, needles, and thread are essential tools in this final stage.

The fact that Drago, as a company, is younger, has fewer employees, and annually produces fewer meters of fabric than several of its industry peers does not mean that the fabrics leaving the factory floor in Verrone are inferior to those of its competitors. On the contrary. The artisans at Drago craft some of the most sought-after, delicate, and ultra-thin fabrics in the world on a daily basis. The fabrics from this outstanding manufacturer in the Biella district boast S-numbers that impress as much as the sensation they impart to the wearer. S-number is the classification measure where the numbers indicate the fineness of a wool fiber, with 'S' standing for Super. The higher the number, the finer the fiber and thinner the wool thread, often synonymous with higher quality. Solanus is the name of Drago's best-selling quality, featuring a lightweight Super 130 wool. The qualities Sunlit and Majesty, made of Super 180 and Super 210 wool respectively, are the incredibly thin fabrics for the most exclusive suits.

Regardless of the S-number, the unique properties of Drago's fabrics have made the family business in Biella the largest supplier of fabrics to the popular Custom Made service by Oscar Jacobson. Today, the impressive operation rooted in the Italian Biella district is led by Paolo Drago, the son and CEO, alongside his sister Daniela, who serves as the vice president and manages significant portions of the administration. Mirka, Paolo's wife, oversees the department for tailored and made-to-measure garments. Representing the third generation of Drago, Filipo Drago serves as both the controller and is responsible for the rapidly growing social medias for the company.

Drago manufactures its fabrics according to the Responsible Wool Standards (RWS) regulations for sustainable wool production, from pastures to stores. All fabrics leaving Drago in Biella are traceable via QR codes. Solar panels power both factories, and a separate company is responsible for purifying all water used in the facilities.
