Oscar Jacobson @ MBFW

Oscar Jacobson Autumn/winter 2012

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson's classic novella of 1886, titled Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, examines the duality of human nature (that good and evil exists in all) and was in part based on the 18th century life of Deacon William Brodie - master craftsman by day, burglar by night.
The Sartorial Leisure collection autumn 2012 derives its inspiration from the aforementioned narrative where the colour palette and aesthetic expression are divided into two constituent parts - Jekyll and Hyde.
Jekyll - a warmer and geeky colour scale in which the fabrics are designed with various British weavers. The look is a respectable Anglo-Saxon work-look with rustic materials in a casual dressy spirit.
Hyde - possesses a colder and darker expression, which becomes stronger and almost graphic. The look is more dressed up and fitted, but with an ever present enigmatic quality.

Formal revival
Quite simply, this is the raison d'être behind Oscar Jacobson. Here it is brought together into an evening theme where tuxedos, suits and shirts - made with the greatest attention to details - highlight the superb quality and ultimate fit of the collection. (Knitwear and accessories added.) Here you see the suit, shirt and tie in a "tone in tone" colour range that creates a confident and sophisticated elegance. And where we have put aside all the unwritten Scandinavian laws about not boasting or bragging. Instead we've taken everything as far as we can - making it "top of the line". In short: this is not a theme you would consider as moderate.

OJ and golfer Fredrik Jacobson launch partnership

Fredrik Jacobson, one of Sweden's most successful international golfers, is to be the face of Oscar Jacobson as part of a new sponsorship deal. Fredrik Jacobson, ranked in the world top 50 and with a win on the 2011 PGA Tour, will be using the entire Oscar Jacobson golf collection.

"Fredrik Jacobson will be a fantastic ambassador for the Oscar Jacobson brand, both through his style of clothing and his game," says Gunnar Hedendahl at Oscar Jacobson. "Fredrik likes our tradition of classic tailoring paired with new technical materials and a higher element of fashion, which is what we're introducing now in our golf collection."

Fredrik, who comes from Gothenburg, has achieved some great results in recent seasons and his goal now is to win a major. He'll be playing several key international tournaments in 2012, including two majors - the US Masters and the British Open.

"I have great confidence in Oscar Jacobson as an international label, and I want to help introduce the brand to more markets," says Fredrik Jacobson.

The partnership means that Fredrik will be using Oscar Jacobson's golf collection in all competitions, with the main focus being on the new WPS (Weather Protection System) collection. WPS is Oscar Jacobson's golf wear using functional materials developed to withstand sun, wind and rain in an innovative way. The clothing is based on the concept of several layers, each with a different function - retaining warmth and wicking moisture away from the body, but also blocking UV rays for example.

"I love Swedish design and Swedish quality, so it makes sense for me. The new golf collection feels fantastic to play in. And I like to dress well off the course as well, so Oscar Jacobson suits me in more ways than one," concludes Fredrik Jacobson.

Meet “El Toro”

joel.jpg

You go under the nickname "El Toro". Why is that?

- That was something my previous trainer Eric Öster came up with in Spain. At the road side of motorways we noticed thousands of signs resembling black bulls. I was pretty known for my bad temper, and I didn't quite look like other swedes with my South American heritage. That combination gave me the nickname "El Toro", and it has stuck ever since.

You've traded holidays and summer on Skaftö for work and roving life in Europe. How does that feel?

- It's a dream coming true. I could imagine living this life for at least another 20 years. Of course I miss the prettiest island in the world, and life as you live it there in the summer, but at the same time the life on the European Tour makes me appreciate coming home even more. It feels so right to kick back and relax on the island.

You once said that you "will always be a big kid on the inside". Does this affect your view on golf in any way?

- To me golf is so much joy and passion, so it's really easy for me to laugh and enjoy life. That makes it easier for me to shrug off a bad round than for many others. To remain a child on the inside is something I grew up with, it comes from my father being just the same. I think it runs in the family.

What advice did your friend Thomas Björn give you before your rookie season?

- That you have to decide early who to trust and not be too naïve.

Already in March you were able to climb the podium on the European Tour. How did you feel that night?

- That was really a bad night. I had to fly back to Rome and stay in a crap hotel at the airport. I landed half past two in the morning and had a sweaty sandwich and a beer for dinner on the plane. High life? Jet set life? Not really, ha ha.

What is the best thing with the European Tour as a workplace?

- Meeting with top players week in and week out. It's also very rewarding to find out just what it takes to become a top player.

How would you describe your feelings when you step up to the first tee off in an important tournament?

- I long to lower the first birdie putt.

What are your long term objectives?

- To win a major, to open "Joel Sjöholm Golf schools" around the world; for poor children and for children interested in golf.

You're playing in clothes from the Oscar Jacobson golf collection. What's your opinion about them?

- The clothes from OJ look really funny. I know that they are provocative, and it will be really fun to put their clothes on this year and show the world a thing or two.

Is it necessary to show "personality" on the tour, in a sea of pro's that often blend in together?

- Of course it is more fun if the spectators recognize a player for how he dresses or how he behaves on the course. I like clothes with a sense of class and groovy colors. It's really fun to put together your own wardrobe that protrudes on the tour. Most guys on the tour do a good job, but are in bad need of new wardrobes. There's still a lot to be done to make the game a bit more fun.

Autumn 2011

Autumn pictures are a wonderful combination of historic environments and tomorrow's clothes. The pictures were taken of our wool producers - Loro Piana. Their head office and factories located in the small picturesque Italian village QUARONA. Peaks frame the beautiful views and add a drama to the pictures we took outside. Inside the factories, we found environments among the heavy bales filled with the softest ulltyperna. Everything from the finest Baby Cashmere to the lambswool floor to ceiling. Our model Christian Brylle posed no difficulty in the traditional setting. The result is a series portrayal images where the clothes speak for themselves. Updated fashion that can be seen at the seams, everything is made of quality materials and with a professionalism that few other brands can offer.
